A hidden Gem on the bank of the mighty Snowy River. The camp ground is a full back to nature with the soothing flow of water enticing calm and relaxation. Rain, Snow, Sleet or sunshine, the river will entice a trance like calm and sense of presence in this amazing place. Usual Alpine toilets, no power, just you and nature. Access down to the river itself is by 4 wheel drive, almost impassable by 2 wheel cars and likely to be quite a struggle for any mindles person who try's. Access via Guthiga road turning off to Island bend, it is only 1 km further on. The first camp ground will cope with off grid camper vans built for dirt track access.

The Snowy River, accessible further down the undulating track is maintained however if you meet someone coming up, a negotiation as to who will be reversing will be required. Wet weather or worse will require a 4×4 and chains. It is possible to walk down to the river if willing to carry all season cloths and GPS nav safety gear.

I would imagine, the small frequent bays would yield a lovely trout if fly fishing. It is a picture postcard so take a good camera.

For those camping, this is a location you need to plan for. Two of everything ( for redundancy), as this location is quiet, secluded and there is no Phone, no Coms and a long walk to access help. Rangers, Parks officers, visit frequently. Take good quality clothing and have a plan should things go wrong.

If you are the self sufficient person who knows their bush craft and needs seclusion in the Australian Alpine, this is for you! I also feel it is an ideal location for a half day trip if travelling from Jindabyne. Short or long trip/visit take:
    1. GPS SatNav to maintain outside coms should you need it.
2 good quality clothing to protect you from the elements if required.
3 let others know of your intended stay and planned movements.
    4. Backup clothing in air locked bag should you need it.

Finally, Don't rely on weather forecasts as conditions change in minutes in this location.

Remember to make a booking through National Parks NSW prior to arrival.

Truly a majestic well kept location that few have ever seen.

It is a fair old drive to get to the river shown in the advertising photo. However there are great camp sites as you enter Island Bend Campground. I stayed at both locations and it was pure bliss. Go well prepared if you intend to stay put. I travel in a Campervan so no problems but I certainly wouldn't be taking any size caravan down to the river side location. No room for two vans to pass. Check this first with the Information Centre.

If you love being surrounded by Australian wildlife then book yourself into a few nights at this campground. Kangaroos all over and the occasional visit from a naughty possum. Perfect jumping point for a few amazing hikes.
